Can you truly build a wellness brand if you don’t practice what you preach? Founder Daniel Hartshorn reflects on the fear of starting a company and the vital importance of taking a 'small pause' to recharge soul and family, even when work feels all-consuming.
Practicing What You Preach: Building a Wellness Brand Without Losing Yourself
How can you build a wellness brand if you don’t practice what you preach?
Starting a company is scary, I don’t care who you are or what your background is; waving a cheerio to a monthly salary when you have a mortgage, a kid and pets to feed feels like staring into an abyss.
To take a week out and spend money on a trip feels almost wantonly wasteful. What about the things that might fall behind? Should I delay until we are shipping?
It seems like there is never a shortage of reasons to delay…. Last week I forced myself to do it, to take the time, to turn the phone off.
What happened?I got the chance to teach my little girl to swim. If I’d delayed then a memory would be lost, an opportunity missed, a thread that binds us together left unsown.
It would also make me a hypocrite because how can we create a tool to give people the time to relax, recharge and focus if I deny those same things of myself.
So we literally and figuratively jumped into that pool and took the time to fill our families soul so that I can return this week lighter and brighter, with a memory that will stay with me forever.
And because of my awesome Co-founders things still progressed at an amazing rate.
What memory are you glad you didn’t delay?
